Refined Pilates

We’re introducing Mme Olga Roberts for Refined Pilates to help students gain strength and ultimately reduce injuries.

Classes taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 – 3:0 PM EST

Here is the equipment you will need for this class:

Miss Olga Roberts was accepted at the age of 14 at the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Then she continued her training at the Rambert school of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. She was trained under former principal dancers Margaret Porter, Anya Linden and Diana Vere who was one of the partner of Rudolph Nureyev.

She was very interested to learn ballet and contemporary dance. She learned foundational techniques such as those pioneered by Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham through release-based styles and newer techniques such as Gaga.

She received her choreography and contemporary training under Dr.Ross McKim.
Olga received a Foundation/BA (Hons) Degree from Rambert School. Additionally she has a specialist Teaching Diploma in Contemporary Dance from Laban Center in London. Later she joined several dance companies in Greece, England, Germany and Australia. She was a former dancer at Pina Bausch ( Tanztheater Wuppertal).

At the age of 11, she began Pilates training as a young dancer. She continued her Pilates training in parallel to her ballet training. Olga completed Advanced Master Training (2.5 years and 1000+hours ) in Body Control-Pilates as a student of the Master Teacher Jenny Colbourne. Miss Olga was trained also with a Master Pilates Teacher Dreas Reyneke who taught her Advanced Pilates Techniques for Ballet Dancers.

She is an active member of the Royal Academy of Dance in London (RAD), the Pilates Alliance Australasia, and the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science ( IADMS). She was a member of the Artistic Faculty at the Kirov Academy of Ballet teaching Advanced Pilates for dancers. She continues to teach dancers and athletes from all over the world. In addition she regularly offers Teachers seminars in Advanced Pilates methods for dancers and athletes.

Refined Pilates evolved in response to the ever-demanding physical challenges faced by Ballet Dancers/Teachers, Athletes, Figure Skaters, Gymnasts and Professional Pilates/Fitness Instructors. The ongoing development of Refined Pilates directly
addresses these challenges.

The method offers a complete and precise body conditioning method based on
current science found within the InternationalAssociation of Dance Medicine (IADM) literature and
our modern understanding of kinesiology and physical therapy.

Refined Pilates builds upon the Classical Pilates principles developed during the Body Culture movement and the somatic field addressing physical education in the early 20th century. It approaches the work from a ballet kinesiological and physical therapy-oriented foundation. Refined Pilates continues to define and expand on Pilates’ work from the Classical Pilates
practitioners.

Changes in the original method are necessary because the students who learn Refined Pilates movements need
to understand their individual bodies,
strengths, limitations, and idiosyncrasies. Refined Pilates respects that the work will always change and evolve because the
bodies of the student are constantly changing.

Refined Pilates focuses on alignment, proper body mechanics, pelvic/core strength development, safe and
purposeful flexibility, and evenly distributed body conditioning. Refined Pilates aims to build strong and
healthy individuals, enhancing self awareness and physical behavior, while always focusing on injury
prevention.
